The Untold Secret Of Affiliate Marketing…

There are many different ways to make money on the internet, and we can’t do them all.

Focus is extremely important in any business, especially in the internet business.

Here’s why – unlike traditional businesses, most people who venture into internet marketing are doing it on a part-time basis while holding on to a full-time job. Time is limited.

Coupled with learning new skills and information overload, it can be an uphill climb. This is true for both beginners and experts who are already in the business.

However do it well and the rewards far exceed anything you can dream of!

The same is true for the business of affiliate marketing.

Whilst this is one of the most “perfect” internet businesses, you still need to tackle it with a more focused approach for maximum returns.

Think about it, within affiliate marketing itself, there are also many different models of applying the business:

1. Pay Per Click
2. Email Marketing
3. Blogging
4. Content Publishing
5. Article Marketing
6. Free Viral Reports
7. Presell Sites
8. Review Sites
9. Ebay
10. Web 2.0 (including videos)

Ten different models in affiliate marketing alone!

No wonder we’re all confused.

The above list is by no means complete. There may very well be others not included in the list.

Here’s the proper way to approach affiliate marketing so you can truly leverage your efforts and make a fortune online with it:

- Focus on just ONE affiliate marketing model you’re comfortable with for a start

- Stick with this model for at least 2 months if you want to see results

- Test, track and improvise where possible

- Reinvest at least 30% of your profits back into the business so you can grow and scale it up

- Rinse, repeat and improve on your model for multiple streams of income

- Explore OTHER models once you’ve the current business running well as this will help you to diversify your business and spread your eggs.

The last point is especially important. If you’re depending on just a single business model to make money, then you’re in a VERY dangerous position (look at what happened years ago to affiliates with the “Google Slap”).

The only constant thing is CHANGE.

Everything changes so do not be overly contented and complacent.

Let this be a wake up call to new and experienced internet marketers alike.

Affiliate marketing is a BUSINESS and like any business, commitment is necessary.

Too many well-meaning marketers give up before they get results.

If you’re looking for money to fall from the sky, sorry it DOESN’T happen.

I use this personal approach which I’ve coined the “F.A.C.E Formula” for success:

F= Focus
A= Action
C= Commitment
E= Education

The above seems self-explanatory but let it really sink in.

It’s the ”untold secret” to successful affiliate marketing or any other business you tackle.

To round up, since there are so many different ways of doing affiliate marketing (I’ve listed 10 above), which in YOUR opinion is the BEST affiliate marketing model you’re having success with?

I’m interested to know what you think. Please feel free to discuss this topic, add your comments and thoughts…

Thanks.

Ewen

PS. This is NOT some “prelaunch” to sell you something else, although I’ll appreciate it if you do buy some of my stuff :-)

Whilst I agree with hat you have just written, I think that a lot of marketers are responsible for people’s, inparticular newbies lack of focus.

Reading an untold ammount of email each day, some of which can contain a video is very time consuming.

Time to sort out those that are just promoting without any real content to offer.

    Present company excluded of course.

Very well summarized a all too common problem with Internet marketers, lack of focus. Too many people jump on the latest bandwagon without really giving anything enough time and attention for to achieve long-term success.

IMO, Pre-sell Sites is the best affiliate marketing model.

I like your F.A.C.E formula. I don’t think I have seen it anywhere else before. Very original!

Look forward to your next PLR product on the 19Th.

    Hi Ewen,

    (Love your blog btw!)

Yes I certainly agree, especially with focusing AND sticking with just one model for at least two months. It may sound simple but unless you make your mind up to DO this it is just too easy to get distracted with other stuff.

Once you have one model down and making money reinvest the profits and hire/outsource that so you can focus on a different model to further increase profits!

    Thanks,

    Dave.

I couldn’t agree more with your formula. The only issue is with the sentence that says “-Reinvest at least 30% of your profits…” For most people it begs the question, “what profits ?”.

Another great article Ewen! I was once a victim of information overload and the deadly “newbie vortex” (buying this, buying that, trying this, and trying that) and I know how it feels to be really down and frustrated.

I know I only started last year on this Internet Marketing stuff, but the time I wasted on that “newbie vortex” really ate up all the time that should have been allotted for a more productive task.

I purchased and read your book, “How I Made My First Million on the Internet”, and I think this was the start of my turning point as a newbie affiliate marketer. I started to focus on not buying stuffs and just start acting on building my business on the net. Although I finished a lot, started promoting and stopped the buying frenzy, I still failed…and that’s several times too.

This article is what I really need. A reminder to take one step at a time. No wonder I can’t see any improvement on my promotions. I am doing 4 models at the same time. LOL..and as a newbie, that’s not a good thing. Thanks for sharing this.

    Hi Ewan
I purchased a PIPS site from you in April this year so have only just started learning the ropes.
Since learning how to optimize my site with keywords and how to choose them I have seen some improvement but understand it will take time.
I personally prefer article marketing, blogs and press release. I think this shows potential customers I am genuine and as I learn, I am willing to share that info with others. Hopefully this will build trust and long term rewards.
    Thanks

Very true and thanks for the wake-up call Ewen. Education is vital to your business, any business. However, it has been my experience that education in any trade is easily found, except “internet marketing”. It seems that there is a society of people who are doing it well, but they do not want to tell anyone the “secrets”. There have been many useless products that I have purchased, and some very useful, mainly yours. It is too bad that we can learn anything about anything to a point of expert status in any niche, but the information that we are lacking is exactly how these “millionaires” are making this kind of money and getting the traffic. I find it hard to believe that these gurus are sitting around for ten hours a day, like myself, blogging, writing articles, losing their ass on pay-per-click,etc. Focus and persistence can be hard for some of us who haven’t broken the barriers of at least making a living! Thanks for your help.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. Focus is definitely the one thing we all lack. And it’s not just because we have limited time to build a business on the internet, I think it’s also about how we are constantly being told it’s easy, it’s simple and you can make money fast!

The reason we all flit from one money-making idea to another is because we all have different concepts of what is ‘fast’. So I particularly liked the fact that you suggest we take just one of the 10 methods and use it for 2 months. And test it.

I also feel that we are inculcated into the idea that if we are marketing an affiliate product we must have everything set up within a few days otherwise all the other affiliates will have saturated the market.

We need to understand that some products which were created 10, 6 or five years ago are still being marketed today. “Mining Gold on the Internet” is one ebook which comes to mind which was written many years ago but is still being sold. Marlon Sanders’ “Amazing Formula” is another. Some of your own products (S.A.W being one) are a few years old but are still worth marketing because thousands of new people are coming onto the Internet every day, so the market cannot be saturated.

Thanks for an excellent article which I hope will inspire a lot of people to slow down: choose a product, do the research you suggest over a few weeks and then choose one marketing method and use that for at least two months before adding another marketing method.
    Best Wishes

Wow. I was just blown away by this. ROFL NOT!!!!
Okay. I know a lot of people miss that very first letter FOCUS. However I think it would be better to say “Patience”. Most businesses will not make money for the first 2 years. Of course what is being packaged and put out is “instant wealth”. Not going to happen. Find a niche, build a business plan, stick with it. Stop jumping at the latest and greatest “get rich quick” scheme. I can say that some of my marketing that I started over a year ago is just now paying off. Just remember, Bill Gates did NOT just pull Microsoft out of a box and be rich over night. It took YEARS of hard work, selling, and dedication.

Ewen, as I’ve grown to expect, you’ve given great advice – particularly concerning FOCUS. A vast number of internet “marketers” play on the newcomers and feed the “zillions of dollars without work” mentality because it’s lucrative for them. You give solid advice and tactics which when followed, will result in marketers with funds to invest in your products due to the value you’ve already proven.

    Thank You!

Just recently launched a niche market blog on “adelgazar” the spanish word for “weight loss”. I followed your Simple Affiliate Secrets and results have been… good but no great, yet. One good reason is (or could be) low availability of spanish language clickbank prods for that niche (or any niche for that matter)…
That particular blog has been active for 2.5 months and has produced a little behind one thousand dls. in affiliate commissions.
I am now working on the “Operation Super Affiliate” product… I will push affiliate marketing in the spanish speaking world…
My methods? -well, a little bit of article mktg., prods revisions and email mktg. Videos could make the difference, but I am a little reluctant.
In any case, a whole new world has opened for me, thanks to your teachings. Thank you!

There are definitely so many different areas within internet marketing that no one can tackle it all on their own.
This is why most people feel overwhelmed and have difficulty in focusing on one strategy.
Specializing in just one or two areas and then outsourcing the rest seems to be the most effective method.

    Hi Ewen,
thankx for the info. One area that you touched on was focus. This has been a major problem for me I have bounced around to much. I set up a calender that sits on my desktop which gives me my tasks for the day and the hours during the day that I have blocked off. This is seeming to keep me on track with my projects and my focus.

Read something today that I found interesting an d pointed to my self. A four letter word that kills you and that is busy. A six letter word makes you money and that is action.
Many times I have been busy but no action, no making money.

    Thankx again

    Hi Ewen,
Goood post. I agree with your sentiments about how you should succeed in affiliate marketing. I have stuck to the free methods, Squidoo lens, hub pages blogs and article marketing. However whilst article marketing will get you good ranking in Google, that does not in my experience at least mean traffic and sales. I have not made a cent so far, so I am inclined to believe there must be something else that nobody is telling me.

    Hello Ewen,
as always, your articles’ value is inestimable! I think that your 10 ways are equally important, but as you said in some reports, it is important to focus on one of these, at least in the startup phase. I’m following your Simple Action Plan and the first results are encouraging!

    Hello Ewen

As always you talk a lot of sense! I’ve fallen in to all the traps that you could imagine over time that could distract you.

I think the problems of focus and distraction are getting harder if anything, I cannot remember a time when there has been so many various product launches over a consistent time frame. Everyone is searching for their dreams and sales copy is compelling and hence it is easy to get caught up in the buy everything possible mind set, not understanding that doing this takes you further away from your dreams.

This particular article reminds me to keep strong and focused, I once was advised by Liz Tomey that you should not purchase anything that you could not use to the betterment of your business in lets say 24 or 48 hours.

This is also good advice, advice for which I have not always followed admittedly, BUT SHOULD HAVE!!

I could go on and on……but dont want to bore anyone to tears…finally don’t become your own worst enemy to success.

I’m a believer that any one can achieve on the internet, but you must overcome your own self as an obstacle to your success.

“listen To Ewen, and you can’t go wrong!”

    Kind Regards

    Hi Ewen,

You always provide top-notch tips. I am an avid fan of yours. I am been grabbing every new product of yours lately. You teach real good stuff.

I have been using few methods for marketing like articles publishing and Web 2.0. I find that Web 2.0 works best for me.

I do agree that FOCUS! is the most crucial part of this business. I also do get distracted most of the time. But I have to pull back myself in line with my work most of the time too. Well! nobody is perfect. I suggest that we must have targets and datelines for everything we do in this business. If we are determine enough, we will definitely able to catch up and put extra hours to meet the datelines. This is how I am working out matters for myself.

All you guys out there, do stick on with Ewen cos he is the best in this business. He will set you up right for this business.

I am one of his product. I bought some of his products and implemented only a few of them. I was a newbie sometime ago. I will be reaching for my goals soon, GOD WILLING!

I’ve learn something today …….the F–>A–>C–>E Formula. Implement It and see results.

Thanks Ewen. Talk to you soon.

Ewen, I think this is a nice one. If you ask me, I will say blogging and article marketing has worked for me. Like you rightly mentioned, a lot of internet marketers work part-time and time constraints always make it impossible to run the whole gamut of all affiliate marketing models. Most people who are presently working at their day jobs, but would want to earn some income online are also overwhelmed by the sheer number of information on the industry. The article at http://incomestuff.com/?p=3 discusses this, as well.

In response to your question I think that blogging is the best form of affiliate marketing. Unless you have a established website, creating traffic for a blog is much easier than for a new website. Also as Blogger is owned by Google you are going to get a reasonable ranking.

I have purchased products from you before Ewin and although your content is good and well structured my blog has made about $4 in 2-3 months.

That’s so true about focusing on just one model…in the beginning. There’s nothing more disastrous then doing 20 things wrong all at the same time. Take time to master one method then branch out slowly and cautiously.

I must say it’s very true that the FACE formula is very important & relevant. Personally, it has been working very well… Thank you.

    Hey Ewen,

Absolutely! Most of the affiliate marketers
do not stick with one model long enough to
get the real result. They stop half way and
blame the model. Focus is important in anything,
    including affiliate marketing.

    Thanks,

    Great list Ewen,
I think a combination of PPC, Article Marketing, and Web 2.0 is the best. Using Web 2.0 traffic strategies along with submitting articles to article directories then testing out the market with a little PPC traffic is definitely one good way of making money.
